The minister expressed regret for the long strike by ASUU, saying that it had impacted negatively on the educational development of the country.

The Negotiation between FG and #ASUU today being the 20/11/20 yielded very good results.

The strike which has been a battle of elephants for the past 8 months is finally getting to an end as the Federal Government of Nigeria is now giving a listening ear to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The favorable results yielded from the meeting between ASUU and FG includes;

1. The government has agreed to use the old platform before #IPPIS, to pay all withheld salaries.

2. #UTAS is still undergoing usability test..

3. On revitalization, the government offered N15billion in addition to the N20billion pledged earlier.

4. #ASUU would now consult with its council and then get back to the government in a short while, to make their final intention known; if the strike will be suspended or not.

The government also agreed to pay the lecturers their outstanding salaries using an older payment platform known as GIFMIS, different from the controversial IPPIS.

The N65 billion seeks to address the issue of earned allowances and ”revitalisation of universities”.

Giving a breakdown of the N65 billion after a meeting between both parties, the minister of labour, Chris Ngige, said the Accountant General of the Federation has offered to release N40 billion “or in the alternative, N35 billion to be shared by all the registered trade unions in the universities after providing necessary evidence of having earned the allowance.”

“The FG reiterated that her offer of N40 billion or N35 billion, whichever is accepted by ASUU, was for all the universities’ unions. ASUU had proposed that N40 billion be paid immediately for all unions,” he said.
