“School na scam” has become the latest mantra or should I say slogan in the mouths of almost every single Nigerian University Undergraduates today.
What the phrase “School Na Scam” actually means is that going to school (i.e. higher institution) is a total and absolute waste of time and youth.
Many feel that if they had invested the time and efforts of trying to pass examinations of their various Universities in a promising business that they would have made a visible and strong claim of financial success in their community, thereby comparing and drawing evidence from the likes of the C.E.O of arguably the most popular social media platform in the world called Facebook in the person of Mark Elliot Zuckerberg who is currently among the top ten richest men in the world,
Also the mastermind behind Microsoft in the person of William Henry Gates III who has been the richest man in the world for a very long time and still currently second in Forbes list of the World’s Wealthiest People,
As well as the C.E.O of Amazon in the person of Jeffrey Preston Bezos who is currently the world’s wealthiest man according to Forbes list of the World’s Wealthiest People, the too hard to forget King of Pop Michael Joseph Jackson and especially the co-founder of Apple Inc and founder of Pixar in the person of Steve Paul Jobs many more like them.
The phrase emanated as a result of the cumbersome frustrations Nigerian undergraduates undergo in their various institutions as well as the hope killing, devastating bitter reality they come to realize after they must have graduated from the University, which is that their hard earned degree certificate cannot guarantee them a good job with fat salary or even a much more better life than the one they were living before setting out to acquire a degree.
But one thing Nigerian undergraduates of today fails to understand is that these made men did not just make it simply by not going to school, they went on to acquire relevant skills which turned out to be the base for their success, infact some actually did go back to school later on even after all their financial success and that alone shows just how important higher education is in the world today.
The sole reason is that most undergraduates fail to acquire relevant skills before furthering their education and even still fails to do so while still in school and this alone which is the lack of any relevant skill renders the undergraduate ineligible for the fat salary jobs he or she seeks.
Also most undergraduates wait till they graduate before they start thinking of how to achieve financial freedom and by then it might just be too late and next thing that comes to their mind is “Las Las School Na Scam”
When you look in-depth at the profile of most of the laudable men and women in our society today you’ll find out that most of them achieved financial success solely by utilizing the various skills they’ve acquired.
So I urge you reading this enlightening article right at this moment to go and acquire relevant skills that might just change your life for good.
